If your stack uses MusicBox version 2.1 and you wish to update to version 3.0, this document describes the minimum changes you will need to make for your stack to work.
NOTE: Before you make any changes to your stack for the update, be sure to make a backup first.
1) Updating the MusicBox resources
The Install feature of the MusicBox stack will update MusicBox 2.1 in the stack you choose for installing MusicBox 3.
2) Updating your scripts
There are the following important changes in MusicBox 3:
a) All the mod commands are now called music commands. For example, the play mod command is now called play music. The other parameters for these commands remain the same.
b) Most of the error messages have been changed. If you check for specific error messages in your script you should make sure you change the messages to the new ones. Alternatively, after installing MusicBox in your stack, you can edit the string resources to give the error messages you desire. Edit the string resources in your own stack, not in the MusicBox stack. The error messages for each command are now described in the How to use section of the stack.
c) Some of the error messages have been removed where unnecessary. For example, if you try to open a channel which is already open, no error is returned. The same is true for some other commands, such as busy: if the channel specified is not open, false is returned (rather than an error).
d) MusicBox now requires a 68020 Mac. None of the commands will work on 68000 Macs (an error is returned), because most of MusicBox's features don't work with 68000 Macs anyway.
Once these changes have been observed, your stack should work exactly the same as it did with MusicBox 2.1. You can now look at the MusicBox 3 stack and the version history information to see what new features are available.
